Major retailers have already sold out of pre-orders of the Nintendo Wii U. The console's price and release date were announced only five days ago, and retailers quickly allowed consumers to pre-order the next-gen console, but if you missed the window, you might be out of luck for now.
The following retailers have sold out of the machine:
GameStop: Although GameStop still is taking orders for the "Basic" Wii U, the Deluxe version is gone..
Best Buy: Ditto Best Buy. You can still get the cheap version, but the expensive one is gone.
Toys R Us: The toy retailer has sold out of both versions of the Wii U.
Target: Target has no pre-order for the Wii U left.
Sears: Old-School retailer Sears is sold out too.
K-Mart: The K lists the device as "coming soon."

Ever since this news broke even the basic package has become next to impossible to preorder and people on Ebay have been price gouging the Wii U preorders, in fact I've even seen a preorder of the basic package go for upwards of $1,000.00. I myself got very lucky and was able to preorder a Wii U Deluxe Edition earlier today at a smaller business by the name of Game Xchange who told me they will have my Wii U in on November the 18th unless otherwise stated and if anything changes they will call me. So anyone who is interested in a Wii U and wants one at launch should probably check if they have a Game Xchange near them.

(706 posts)to be quick. Yes it's Wal-Mart which I would personally avoid due to their poor labor practices but sometimes gamers don't have a choice.

If you are looking to pre-order a Nintendo Wii U this holiday you may be in luck as Wal-Mart will be accepting in-store pre-orders shortly.
On Wednesday afternoon a user on CAG revealed that starting on October 14, Wal-Mart will begin to take in-store pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Bundle using their Holiday Layaway system -- pre-orders will be limited to 2 per person.
Just as all other major retailers, Wal-Mart will have limited quantities and sales will be blocked once the store reaches their allocation.
For those interested in pre-ordering at Wal-Mart you should know that there is a service fee of $5 and 10% down to the reserve the Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Bundle.
