Gaming Nightmare Fuel (or: what keeps you up at night?)

What are the top things you've seen or experienced in the gaming realm that truly terrifies you, or at least gives you the shivers?

Top Three for me:

#3 - Missingno

I first ran across this thing when I was 9 and playing Red. In retrospect, if I were an adult and saw it, I would've just laughed it off, but something about that thing is just creepy. Maybe it was the amorphous blob of static using Sky Attack on me.

#2 - Cazadores

The giant creepy fuckers of the Mojave Wasteland. These things are the reason I'm irrationally afraid of real life hornets and wasps. Did I mention these are real things that actually exist? Sweet dreams.

#1 - Deathclaws

Yes, these things. Remember the Magic School Bus and that little happy chameleon Ms. Frizzle kept as the class pet? That's what these things used to be. Now, they're 10 foot tall death machines which haunt your nightmares. Oh, and they leap at you. And fucking grin while they do.

running into that first DeathClaw when you are up north in FO3. You just arent ready for how fast they are and how hard they are to kill, particularly if you head up that way early in the game when you don't have the skills/weapons to deal with them.

I actually went into DC early in my first run-through, which was tough, but got me the exp/skills/wpns to deal with them well enough by the time I ran into them.

Though in FO3, they don't particularly bother me anymore. The Dart Gun is one of the first things I try to get a hold of, and it very much robs the DCs of their advantage.

In NV, though...until you can get the AMR and exploding rounds, they're a nightmare.

That was before it was rewritten 1000 times in stupid crappypastas.

"MissingNo" probably means "Missing Number" - the program code probably tries to grab a creature by ID but doesn't find any (its a null value), causing that weird MissingNo thing (it's a collection of sprite pieces).
