PC Gamer: 14 space games you should be excited about right now

http://www.pcgamer.com/gallery/14-space-games-you-should-be-excited-about-right-now/

Space games are coming back. The Kickstarter success of big projects like Star Citizen have reminded everyone that there's still an audience for games set in the big black. New tech like the Oculus Rift gives us new ways to enjoy shooting lasers at other spaceships and the massive hardware leaps we've enjoyed since the glory days of X-Wing and Freespace 2 can support prettier space games built by smaller teams.

We've rounded up 14 of the most exciting candidates. Some are looking for funding on Kickstarter or upvotes on Greenlight, others are already out, but are still growing and being updated regularly. If you like space games, these are the ones you should be keeping an eye on right now.

even though I'd probably have to upgrade my computer first. Love the idea of actually being "in" your spaceship, moving around, having a crew and being able to land and walk around the space stations. I thought the lack of cockpit graphics in X3: Terran Conflict broke immersion, and I kinda missed the "internal" docking ports from X2 in X3.

I think the success of X: Rebirth will hinge on how they implement the fact that you only directly fly one ship; part of the fun is flying a bunch of different ships, and a single ship can't be everything to everyone and all play styles. So it'll be interesting to see how they implement the remote piloting of your fleet, whether it's entirely menu driven, or you can actually control them directly. Since I play as a trader I generally fly a freighter, so I wonder if I'd end up just sitting in a corner of a map doing a lot of remote flying.

ELITE!

ELITE!

ELITE!

(Can you tell I'm excited?)

Oh, and Star Citizen, too.
I heard Chris Roberts posted a video telling all his supports to also throw their support into Elite: Dangerous. He explained that without Elite, Wing Commander would probably never have been made. That's class.

I'm gonna need a bigger boat (computer) for all of this.

Now if only Volition would make Freespace 3...
