The Evil Within.
The Evil Within is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. I played it on the PS4. I heard the load times on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 were very long, and the graphics weren't as nice as the other three choices, but those were the only differences. The PC version has a mod to increase frame rate, which makes it look even smother than it already is.
Genre: Horror/3rd person shooter/stealth/adventure game!
Story: You're a stereotypical detective investigating the bad things happening at Beacon Hospital.
Gameplay: The gameplay has a nice balance of shooting, sneaking, and exploring/looting. You have the traditional shooter weapons plus a crossbow with many different types of bolts you can craft for varying strategies. There are areas where you can use your environment to take out your foes, which can save on ammo and healing items. Ammo is scarce, so you have make your shots count. The sneaking works well, and you can even hide from some bosses, but you still need to kill them. You can hide in closets and under beds, but this isn't really needed after the first level. Exploring/looting is as expected except there are keys hidden throughout the game that open treasure lockers in the hub area. You don't need to find any of the keys, but they are very helpful. Ammo and healing items are scarce, so being a thorough looter is well rewarded. You can find Green Gel hidden around the levels and enemies often drop it when killed, and this Gel is used to upgrade many different aspects of your character and weapons. The controls are very smooth, and my only complaint is picking up items isn't always as easy as it should be because the placement of your character has to be fairly specific. It's not a huge deal, but it mildly annoyed me from time to time.
Presentation: The graphics and level design are fantastic. I was afraid I was going to spend the whole game in a generic hospital and it's sewers, but the levels are very diverse throughout the game. There are different types of enemies and bosses that require different approaches, and if you're good, you can sneak by many of them.
Replay value: There's New Game+ on the same difficulty that gives you two new weapons and all Green Gel (xp) found is doubled. There are also two new difficulties unlocked: Nightmare (hard) and Akumu (hard and you're a one hit kill).
Overall: Awesome game. I thought it was more gross than scary, but the game is a blast, the unlockables are meaningful and upgrades make you an eventual badass. It's like Dead Space or Resident Evil 4, but with stealth, better levels, and better upgrades. I highly suggest The Evil Within.
