(1,856 posts)I was on World of Warcraft back in Thanksgiving 2004 when it started.I've reached high levels in LOTRO as well. But never did play Everquest. I played EVE online several years ago.
Lately I have been playing strategy games but I will always love RPG MMO's.

(10,402 posts)I've never played one and the price on it is a bit cheaper these days. I've kind of taken a break, I bought two used games for cheap which were crap, Madden, which I never have liked the football games and a Star Wars game that is a snooze and cheap looking.
Peace
A very diverting game and if you've ever been in Boston, all the landmarks are there. I lost my urge for gaming somehow when my Year of Dealing with cancer started, but I still plan to get back and play the expansion bits.

(23,738 posts)Years later, I'd progressed to Zork, ...then Wizardry and Netrek. TSR's Pool of Radiance, then Civilization and Sim City... Oh the hours I've wasted that I'll never get back.
Nowadays, it's pretty much whatever looks interesting for under $10 (a self imposed limit) on Steam. Unless it's a Sid Meier game. Then I'll pay more.

(4,261 posts)I spent so many hours on those games... I loved the "save game exploit".

(21,883 posts)I used to buy off the $9 rack when computer stores were still a thing. I do it at amazon, at steam or directly now.
I did spend $30 on Kerbal Space Program a couple of years ago (still play it) and I bought GTA V almost as soon as it came out on PC. (still play it).
After hours of frustration in Wizardry on an Apple ][+, I found an article about hacking the characters with a hex editor, and did so. That made the game much more playable.
The Ultima series was my favorite. I played the precursor, Akalabeth: World of Doom, and Ultimas 1-4 on an Apple ii of some sort or another. I owned a MS-DOS system (12Mhz 8088) for 5. It took forever.
Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon had this bug where if you went far enough negative in cash, specifically 2147483649. The value of the Available cash variable was limited to 2147483648 (4 bytes). As far as the game, the computer, or both were concerned, 2147483649 = 2147483647. This only happened when you tried to do this. Normal play would result in you losing before you ever could ever establish that kind of debt. Needless to say that little glitch turns things around pretty quickly
And Civilization! "Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!"
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
