Bethesda bans Fallout 76 players for life after shocking in-game homophobic attack

Bethesda has banned a group of Fallout 76 players for life after a shocking in-game homophobic attack.

The following contains language some may find offensive.

The move relates to an incident in which a group of Fallout 76 players targeted and harassed another group of players, saying over the proximity chat: "we have come to eliminate all gays."

Fallout 76 employs a proximity-based chat system which means, by default, you can speak to and hear other players when you're near them. This is by design - Fallout 76 is a multiplayer-only game that is meant to spark interesting player interaction.

The group of high-level players proceeded to follow and kill the other group of players over a period of about 10 minutes. Their ringleader, who goes by the username NathanTheHicc, is heard saying "queer down" and "decontaminate the aids".

I proceeded to read the story, but it seemed like it was in another language.

Maybe I should study up a little more on gaming. I played D&D and board war games in high school. Haven't really done much in nearly 40 years.

I don't know who.produced earlier fallout games. Fallout 76 is all online multiplayer so I have been scared to buy in even though I liked Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4.

This just gives me another reason not to play it.

people to play traditional board wargames online now. The main one is called VASSAL, which basically gives you a virtual board and pieces, a dice roller program, and turns you loose. You still need to play the game and handle the rules yourself, but you can knock out games with people across the globe as easily as across the table.
