Well, after years of rumors and fake-outs, its finally happened. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is in active development. We already knew this was the case, of course, based on a variety of reports and leaksnot to mention how long its been since the last GTA game was released. But still.
The new post, simply titled Grand Theft Auto Community Update covers a lot of GTA news, including more information on how GTA Online will evolve on next-gen consoles and features to expect in the new ports of GTA V coming in March. It sounds promising, and the visual updates are top-notch.
But the big news was found all the way at the end. Rockstar Games has now officially confirmed the next entry in the GTA franchise is currently in development. And while Rockstar didnt share any real details about the game, I expect many will just be happy to hear it exists.
With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

(13,905 posts)The role playing community and the casual masses of people who like to play online with a friend or two is what made V sell so well in the near decade since its release. Rockstar had no need to make GTA VI when they were making money hand over fist with relatively cheap modifications and additions to GTA V.
I bought V when it launched on PS3 (!!!) and I enjoyed the online portion even though I mostly played the missions solo and went after achievements. The game was just a shell of its current self back then but it was a lot of fun. I have a personal policy of not buying games on more than one platform, especially when they are little more than money grabs. So I never picked up the PC or PS4 versions of V and I wont be buying the PS5 version either although I am desperate for a new game on that platform. Ill definitely buy VI when it arrives as I am sure it will be spectacular even though I am good 20-30 years older than the typical player.

There are plenty of talented people and they can be replaced. There is a certain loss here that is going to be felt in some way or another, whatever comes next. What comes next might be fantastic--but a fantastic that is discontinued in some way.
