The scenery is AMAZING! I will post some screenshots when I get some time. If you like RPGs...then this is a 10 out of 10 game for you!

I'll be hanging onto Morrowind for that purpose.

(65,616 posts)I still play that game when I am bored. Morrowind...haven't seen that one in years.
TygrBright
(20,987 posts)Morrowind is much closer to Skyrim structurally.

(28,158 posts)Is it because of the Steam account thingy? If so, can't you just turn off the online feature of Steam and you'd be good to go?

(28,158 posts)I've been playing it offline since the previous patch came out w/o any problems. I wasn't in a mood to see my dragons fly backward.

(20,987 posts)I tried to play it while our wireless network was down and it wouldn't let me load a saved game or start a new one.
Any clues about what setting, or whatever, it would require to allow me to do so?

(28,158 posts)I opened Steam. I clicked on the top bar where it say's "Steam" in grey letters. It's the first option it also says "View Friends Games Help. Then I selected the second option from the menu which is "Go offline". I've since played in places where they have no wireless, as well as at home where I do. It appears it worked for me and it has also kept me from downloading the unwanted patch until they put out a fix.
If nothing else, it's worth a try.
I hope this works for you!

(20,987 posts)The darn game is so addictive I don't want to leave it behind when I'm on the road.

I am looking for my Morrowind disk ASAP!

(765 posts)I loved Morrowind almost beyond the telling of it--great, fun game with a complex main quest. I am beginning to feel the same way about Skyrim. Really enjoying the story and the gameplay.
Oblivion was fun, but the main quest was terrible.

(65,616 posts)I was left wondering why they even bothered with an ending to the main storyline. After a very powerful beginning with Patrick Stewart...the end felt cheap.

(20,599 posts)Each sequel is a complete stand-alone product that has very little to do with the events of the games before it.
That said, events from Morrowind and Oblivion are referenced in Skyrim. Read Skyrim's in-game books for the details.

(24,096 posts)I have a Mac and a copy of a PC DA, and hoping I can find something out there on the interwebs that will work for me. I've spent many hours looking around with no good results.
Anyone here been successful at using wine with this game? I'm not very savy with these things so most likely it is that that holds me back from playing.
The only other wined PC game I play on my Mac is Ultima Online (which is a sweet old timey thing I love), but someone was kind enough to give me baby step by step on how to set it up and it worked great.

(6,256 posts)Wasn't that the first MMO, aside from MUDs?
Whisp
(24,096 posts)and some people I come across in game have been playing on and off since the beginning. Some very hard core loyalty there.
I play on a free server and enjoy it immensely. Something about that old school feel that brings back great memories.
Some really neat features (on Demise freeshard) incude building your own house/castle (lots and lots of different design possibilities) where you can store your stuff and decorate how you like. Can ride horses and other tameables and a huuuuuuge amount of choices for character setup.
It is truly a gem. I'd trade this in for a WoW any day.
My all time favorite game EVA - Ultima III Exodus.
EDIT - Ultima III was a revolutionary move for RPGs - it featured animated characters...a first if I remember correctly.

(6,785 posts)Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands came out a year prior to Ultima Online IIRC*. The Twinion series is even older than that, Fates of Twinion was 92 or 93, and L.O.R.D. and the original Neverwinter Nights were around on BBSes.
Damn I feel old now.
*It failed miserably commercially, but it's still around on free servers.

(4,261 posts)who make crossover a commercial wine product and they have Morrowind,Tribunal and Bloodmoon at Gold Medal status that is run almost perfectly with few bugs. Dragon Age Origins is at Silver Medal Status, playable, but with a few major bugs.
Crossover is a wine product for linux or mac (seperate versions) which I've used in the past. If you don't mind paying for it, it's much easier to set up than wine.
Check it out at www.codeweavers.com

(18,807 posts)I'm not sure about the plot, but that's because I've spent so much time so far just wandering around taking in the ohmygod visuals that I haven't gotten that far into it yet.
It's the first fantasy RPG I've gotten in ages; I'm normally a strategy/SF/historical gaming person so it's a nice switch.

(4,866 posts)Skyrim is great, through. It still holds your hand a little too much for the main quest, but not as bad as Oblivion did. I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

(20,176 posts)The guild questlines, KotN and Isles all would have made better main questlines.

(4,643 posts)Although I will admit, the mage's guild quest felt a little - detached. One would think that doing quests for the guild as a member would require the using of magic occasionally.

I am really glad the magic was toned down in Skyrim.

(24,096 posts)and am playing it on the xbox360. I would have prefered it for my comp but it doesn't come in Mac version so tough noogies for me.
I found the type size almost impossible to read. Apparently you have to have a big HD screen for best resolution. That kind of sucks but I manage to read most of what I have to.
I was a bit underwhelmed at first but after a couple days trying it out I am really happy with it. So far I think it's the best game I've tried in years. I like the No Grind part of it - you don't hack and slash continuously with fast respawns but have to journey around the breathtaking scenery. I usually do not like games that walking around looking for stuff is 70% of the whole deal but with Skyrim, it feels totally different. I seem to be much more patient playing this thing that I usually am.
Love the part where you can buy houses and decorate them - that is a huge plus for me.
10 out of 10 for me too.
