(20,805 posts)..Man I can't believe how long ago that was....Never met James Hunt but I did get to meet Niki Lauda at a test at Brands Hatch when the Brabham team were on the way down to Monaco for the GP...There can't have been more than 30 or forty people that knew that they were going to be there that day...it was AWESOME!!

(10,171 posts)It was a much simpler time - look at the team haulers. I'm just hoping that it's a better portrayal of Lauda and Hunt than "Days of Thunder"s portrayal of Tim Richmond and Harry Hyde. That turned 2 complex & unique individuals into cartoons.
Hollywood should consider a Jan Opperman biopic - Johnny Depp could star. A great quote, best as I can remember :"I went over to Bogar's shop to talk about taking his ride. I was a hippie from California, with beads and a peace sign, so I asked Hentzelman (Bogar's mechanic) "What's your philosiphy of racin'?" He spit some tobacco juice in the corner, thought a minute, and said "Piss runs downhill.."
I knew right then, we was gonna be fast!"
I'll post a video of Opp in it's own thread.
