Deer gun season opens tomorrow in Texas.

Day time temps will be 63°, some 15° less than yesterday, with night time down to 40s. That means I can hang the deer out all night. Clear, moderate breeze (after showers Thursday), and oats for cattle are drawing does into the field. It should be a wonderful time.

are safe. No clear shots except on illegal bucks (antler restrictions). But another hunt must be made!

I took a doe in early Nov. I'm still looking for a big buck to harvest. The acorn crop in East TX was exceptional this year. The deer on my lease are hidden deep in the creek bottoms. I hope they return to the food plots and corn soon...

hang close to food as the rut comes to an end and they try to recover. At least thar's the way I'll play it my next trip. So far, I haven't gotten a clear shot, or the deer is illegal (antler restrictions). Should be fun strategizing.

better condition. The drought really knocked back the numbers as expected, but they are coming back.

In Uvalde Co., I have seen more axis than over the last few years. I have to change strategy: The drought-clobbered pasture, mesquite and oaks have choked off the hundred-yd shooting lanes, and about the time you notice them, they've noticed you. Haven't seen legal bucks in Coryell Co; Uvalde has no restrictions, but I pass up young bucks who are showing good growth.

No hogs (good for the land owners) spotted. Did see a red fox in Uvalde, which is good.

I hope to get an axis this mo. And am actually looking forward to late dove season as numbers are good, and I have a line on a "new" field which was productive in Oct.
