Hunters don't deserve the bad rap from Portland Police chief's incident

The anti-hunting community could not have planned a more explosive public-relations windfall than the serendipitous event just handed to them from Eastern Oregon by the police chief of a major American city.

Maxine Bernstein's comprehensive reporting of Portland Police Chief Larry O'Dea's accidental shooting of a friend sets the scene: A group of 50s-something guys sitting in a row of lawn chairs, drinking beer while shooting defenseless small animals with rifles, one of which, after repeated jamming issues, is laid down so its owner can pop another brew. While picking it back up, he manages to accidentally discharge the rifle and hits a friend in the lower back; then manages to cover it up for a month.

PETA on a platter.

The linked article by Bernstein is a good write-up of the ongoing mess. ManiacJoe May 2016 #2

The 2017 Oregon Legislature, spurred by NRA lobbysists (sic), gun clubs and hunter organizations, needs to insert HWI (handling weapons while under the influence) restrictions into Oregon's firearms/weapons laws, just as with boating and driving. "Handling," rather than "hunting," because hunting is a specific use whereas handling covers the gamut of weapon uses (target practice, sport s
hooting, etc.). And "weapons" to apply to archery or other implements as well. I agree. If I lived there, I would call my rep.
Why are there more misspellings and wrong word usage so common these days? I expect more from someone working in the media or graduated from university.
