Since DU still does not have a dedicated wildlife or ecology forum I will post here. There are more than just birds and birders in the world. To not have such a dedicated forum is the same as not having a gender and orientation forum. For obvious reasons, why not???!! have a dedicated wildlife/ecology forum? Politics and climate change have huge impacts on wildlife. That said, there are many of us who simply love to share our experiences and observations of wildlife. Please add a wildlife/ecology forum.
Anyhow, in southern Arizona we have the gift of the presence of endangered nectarivorous bats feeding from our hummingbird feeders and night-blooming cacti. Here are two recent videos from my yard:

(60 posts)With the exception of cockroaches, mosquitoes and cicadas I am
fond of all most all of the nonhuman world. Well I am not sure about ticks either ..

(5,240 posts)I love hearing them screech as they fly overhead around this time of the year.
I feel there are fewer these days than in the earlier years, but I am not sure. I think they are fruitbats of some sort. I have a roseapple tree in our garden and they sometimes eat the fruit.
One once fell into our garden and I was at my wit's end re: what to do-what wildlife rescue group to contact. My local shelter/wildlife rescue is sadly underfunded.
And my awful cats were hanging around..but it somehow extricated itself and flew away.

(55,846 posts)between the bats and hummingbirds we are going through at least 5 lbs of sugar a week.
you could start a thread in GD asking if people would be interested in a wildlife/ecology group, then ask for it in ATA. I would be interested for sure, but honestly more people would see posts in GD or the Lounge.
