(14,595 posts)is what produces these 3-D illusions and probably high shutter speeds. The foreground and background being out of focus is what produces the illusion.
Back in the 70s when I had to borrow the money to buy my first (and only) Nikon F, I enjoyed photographing tiny wildflowers and insects in the woods. Probably due to lighting conditions, I would occasionally get photos like this but never thought to make a study of that effect. This type result was particularly pronounced using Kodachrome slide film, which I felt always produced elegant results.
Unfortunately, I've not enjoyed the luxury of continuing one of my favorite hobbies using a good DSLR camera. Maybe someday!
This photographer put a lot of time and effort into catching these animals in a good spot and in good lighting, while at the same time having his camera settings just perfect.
