Question for bike geeks.

Had a knee replacment last year and decided to buy a bike to get some strength back. Boought a Police mountain bike because it looked durable and versital.

I had not ridden in 30 years and, although I love my bike, the tires loose most of their air pressure in a matter of a few days. Is this common now? Seems that when I was a kid, I never had to add air to the tires. Or do I just have bad tubes that need to be replaced?

It shouldn't happen. Further investigation is warranted. PoliticAverse Oct 2012 #1
It's a brand new, outta the box bike and both front and rear tires do it at almost the same rate. OffWithTheirHeads Oct 2012 #2
Is it schrader valve or presta ? PoliticAverse Oct 2012 #3
Schrader, and what you say makes sense. I have a Schrader tool and will check for tightness. OffWithTheirHeads Oct 2012 #4

Remove the wheels and use a sink or tube full of water to determine where the leak is.

If it is schrader (same valve as car tires) place a drop of water on the valve and see if the leak is there.
(sometimes the valve cores are loose).

Scheader vs presta valve:

But, I take from your reply that air loss is not the new normal.. Common sense tells me you are probably correct about the valves. Thank you!
