Spent several hours yesterday reading on line and watching you tube videos on the Mosin Nagant. I have two M91/30s and in this thread I'll be posting links to sites and videos which give info on the various models, advice on taking care of such and about turning one into a very good scout rifle.

There are a number of videos on youtube where people discuss what they like or may not like about this particular mount and also videos showing step by step how to install one.

(3,874 posts)It was in decent shape, had a new bolt, came with a sling, cleaning kit and 100 rounds for $100! I came within a heartbeat of getting it but decided to wait on it, go home and do some research. Most people loved theirs, said it was real durable and was great to hunt deer with. More than one, however, said theirs basically blew up in their face and would run (not walk) away from them. I kept the $100. Im sure 99% are as durable and accurate as most say but it just wasnt worth the risk to me. Wish I had seen this video sooner and I mighta gotten one! Thanks for sharing.

Now I've seen many videos and read several articles on checking head space but the only comment I've read so far as what to do about fixing it, if it is bad, is to purchase another bolt head. I saw one site that has Mosin Nagant bolt head with extractors on sale for $23.
Here's a video on checking the firing pin protrusion with the tool that often comes with a Mosin Nagant
