Got any hiking/camping recommendations for Bryce Canyon and/or Zion?

Last edited Wed Mar 20, 2013, 12:38 AM - Edit history (1)

I'm going to Zion and Bryce Canyon next Monday, a trip I agreed to on short-notice, and I'm trying to put together some semblance of a plan. We'd like to hike in a maximum of 5 miles and camp for 2 or 3 nights in Zion, followed by 2 or 3 nights in Bryce. We''re looking to do primitive camping in an isolated spot well-away from other hikers/campers.

What are some must-see places in each park?

Are there good places in surrounding areas like national forest or BLM land where we can camp?

Do you prefer one park over the other?

Are we pushing our luck by assuming we can get permits on a walk-in basis?

Ever done the Angels Landing trail?

Thanks for any advice.
