I may be going to Taormina in the fall...

http://www.taormina.it/wp-content/themes/duotive-two/includes/timthumb.php?src=&h=380&w=960&zc=1&q=100

I went there in 2005 but my travel buddy wants to go now so I might just do it. What a gorgeous place it is. The vista is from the Greek/Roman temple and shows Mt. Etna rising in the background. I stood there and saw it and it is fabulous.

I wonder why more Americans don't go to Sicily. It is a wonderful place. Great food and the history of that island is amazing.

GO to Sicily...

did you know you can go to the dock where Sparta sank Athens ships in the Peloponnesian War? It's amazing.

Palermo is a world class city. My buddy doesn't want to go there (even tho I argued in favor of it). She really is just starry eyed about Taormina.

We'll have to fly into and out of Catania (not a great place, IMO) but that's OK. Taormina makes up for that.

The history of Sicily is mind boggling. Every Western empire has conquered that island.

LOVELY! Will post a pic of a favorite restaurant (when I return to the cottage, where cookbook with pics is stored.)

Was Easter time, so saw many interesting religious/culture things.

Wow, that was a long time ago! What a great honeymoon destination!

Why do you think so few folks even KNOW about Taormina?

It was part of our honeymoon trip 'around' Italy. We didn't do an itinerary, just rented a car and drove.

Anyone who's done research on Sicily would find Taormina, and I think we found it just that way: AHA, THERE it is, NICE!

When I return to the cottage, I'll check the cook book for menu and a squib about the ristorante. (We were there 31 years ago, so you get to see how much things have changed!!!)

P.S., I just rediscovered the travel guide we used for our honeymoon, Fisher Italy 83/84, which contains our itinerary, where we stayed in our trip around Italy, including each hotel and ristorante. I'm so happy to have found it!
