... that might interest you. Of course, I don't know if you've already heard about it; but I recently learned about the House of Terror museum in Budapest. The building once served as secret police headquarters under the short-lived Arrow Cross regime during the last year of World War II and also for the Communist regime that soon followed. Who knows how many Hungarian citizens were tortured and murdered in that building. It definitely is worth seeing, simply from the standpoint of having an interest in history. If I could go to Budapest, I definitely would see it. No doubt about it. I've posted a link below to the Wikipedia article about the museum.

I don't leave for several months but I bought the r/t ticket yesterday (got a hell of a deal on it on Orbitz). R/T fare from where I live to San Francisco ---> Dublin and then I'll be going with a group to travel to Salzburg/Vienna and on to Budapest from there where I'll stay four nights or so and then return to San Francisco from Budapest.

Cost was really low as it costs $600.00 to travel to SF from where I live. This whole ticket was about $1100.00.

I like Rick Steves' guidebooks because he tells you all the things that a first-time visitor needs to know and gives explicit directions for how to get to various destinations.

For example, his London guidebook tells you exactly which buses or Tube lines to take from where to reach things like the British Museum.

The weather was similar to New York or Chicago. Mostly in the 50s with some occasional rain.

I was planning on taking some as I was in Ireland a number of years ago in Sept. and I thought I was going to freeze my butt off. I'll be going through Ireland again but not staying there for too long.

Long undies probably won't be needed, but they are small and easy enough to pack. I don't think you will need it in October, unless there is some freak weather.

You can also purchase warm weather gear in Hungary if needed. The stores have everything that our stores have.

I guess it's a matter of perspective depending on what sort of weather yr used to....

Apart from the cold, Budapest was an awesome place to visit....

Really, I do appreciate it (still looking for a place to stay btw .... ???).

I have purchased an entire set of wool long underwear because I know what that type of unbearable cold is and I don't tolerate it well at all.
