Anyone here get travel/health insurance?

Last edited Thu Dec 9, 2021, 02:26 PM - Edit history (1)

My mother insists we get it.

Covers all medical (up to $1 million), drugs, evacuation back to the states if needed.

We are planning two trips, 4 weeks total next year. Geoblue (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) has a policy, one year for $390. It does require a base health insurance policy.

I’m thinking it’s a good idea, if nothing else it will stop her nagging.

BC/BS is my 'supplement' to Medicare.

Haven't travelled in a while, and don't anticipating doing so (except to NJ!)

Paid off when my mom was airlifted off the cruise and sent to a hospital in Bahamas for a week. Cruise insurance paid the 20,000 airlift and entire hospital stay including also being airlifted to ft Lauderdale hospital (2day stay). I shutter to think what the entire bill would be if we had to pay it.

Dad and I used to take a one week fishing vacation in northern Ontario. We would be on the boat for the entire day and not see another soul. Paid a couple of hundred bucks to rent a satellite phone, just in case.

First 5 years backpacking, the remainder fishing. Backpacking is a lot of work, and it’s hard to carry around a couple cases of beer.

trip. I got back all the money we'd paid the tour company and airline. The only thing non-refundable is the cost of the insurance.

and thankfully I never needed it.

Going forward, if ever I get to travel again, I will definitely purchase travel insurance.
