Trip of a lifetime
My nephew, who lives in Los Angeles, went to Romania to see Sigur Ros in concert. He said the concert was great, and had a terrific time. He got back to Paris to spend a few days. He texted me night before last that he got mugged, knocked out. He is okay. The thugs took his money, a debit card, and glasses. He didn't lose his passport of phone. He prepaid most of the expenses of the trip, so he has a place at the hostel, and plane home. I used Western Union and wired him some money. I was a little worried that it could be a scam, but was confident it was my nephew. It is and he got the money okay, so he won't starve on the streets of Paris.
He has turned into a really caring person. He is a special ed. teacher, and shares food and personal care products as he can, in his building, if he is out and about. He probably would've given the thugs his money, and I feel terrible that he was assaulted. I warned him to be careful as he traveled. Another nephew and his family were in Paris, and were accosted by a street gang. The gang separated the family members and stole an Iphone and maybe money from the teenager. No violence, but scary. We were in Paris in 2005 and had a ball.
