Cruise ship stop in Haiti is not really Haiti.

I was surprised to see news that cruise ships are still stopping in Haiti, but it's more like not being in Haiti at all. It's an isolated resort, fenced off and heavily guarded. Guests are not allowed to leave the resort. Sounds like an immersive cultural experience, huh?

Off the north coast of Haiti. More ways for the cruise lines to get your money and pay the locals a pittance wage. I've never been, usually because they don't have the charter cruises stop there.

If we ever do go on a cruise that stops there, I'm going to wear my necklaces for Papa Legba and Oshun and see if any of the workers get it.

Relatively safe. At least people can say they’ve been to Haiti. Good for them to enjoy a day at a beach.

In a country where you have gangs with 50 cal sniper rifles, heavy caliber machine guns, mortars, rpgs, and apc's, a walled compound, even with armed guards will hold only as long as they pay off the local militia.

And if the local gang falls to another gang, all security arrangements also fall.

Nothing in that country is stable. Anyone vacationing there is nuts.

Any company taking people there is irresponsible.

but I think it is one of the few ways that income is brought in to the country. For good and bad, cruise ship companies are a big part of the economy in the whole region.
