They are still going to be dealing with lawsuits for years over past negligence. However, they have made significant policy changes regarding screening of leaders, education of members, and rules about reporting and contact with scouts.

be trying to change things, though. I've never been a bit supporter of scouting. It always seemed too military-like for me. A lot of Boy Scout troops have been historically sponsored by churches, too, so they've had problems with excluding non-Christians over the years.

If a matter is handled internally, whether some priest boffing a pre-pubescent boy or embezzling money, that won't turn up on a background check if the guy wants to be a youth leader, teacher, or bookkeeper/financial manager--unless the background check includes talking to past employers or references. Even then, if it's kept confidential that may not come up during the phone check.

Adult that stepped foot on property of any of my scout camps. I was then inspected every year to make sure all background checks were documented. That and all the myriad if other state inspectors, national inspectors etcetera.

This is not new for the scouts.
