Why I Posted about My Parents in the Religion Group

First, the post was distinctly tied to religion. My parent are non-religious, and so much that involves end-of-life decisions also involves religion for many people. My goal was to show an example of how the non-religious often deal with facing those issues. My parents do not wish to have religion imposed on them, even after they die, and made that clear to me.

Second, I value the discussions in the Religion Group very highly. That's why I'm an active participant here. It is the only place on DU where topics involving religion can be discussed openly by anyone of any faith or of no faith at all. Such discussions are important, and a political site like DU needs a place to have them. I hope that my thread introduces more people to this group, so we can increase the number of participants in this group.

Notably, that thread is now at the top of the Greatest Threads List on DU. That demonstrates clearly that such issues are important to discuss on Democratic Underground, and will be read and commented on actively by DUers. The thread has had 7418 views, 90 replies, and 191 DU Recs, so far. Discussions involving religion are popular with DUers. I hope more people subscribe to the Religion Group and take part in its discussions.

digs at my "personal postings." I posted this follow-up to point out that discussions about religion have a wider audience than some realize. The goal, too, is to increase the number of people who participate in the Religion Group, to make it have an even broader set of attitudes toward religion than it already does.

Thanks for your reply.
