"Let Go and Let God!" Is An Idiot's Slogan

Go Google that common phrase and read a few of the hits. In reality, it means different things to almost everyone who writes about it. It has become so common that its popularity hides its meaninglessness.

Let Go and Fall on Your Ass!
Let Go and Fail Miserably!
Let Go and Take Your Chances!

It's all the same thing. The assumption seems to be that there is some deity out there watching over you and preventing the disaster that is just around the corner. How's that working out for you so far? Is success pouring down like rain? Is ignoring your responsibility for your own life bringing you what you need? No? Well, then...

Really...Try This Instead:

Hang On Tight! It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride!

having had no experience with transportation other than that provided by donkeys. Also being dead could be a problem; and even if one believes he got resurrected, presumably he's hanging out with God in some celestial state of being rather than swooping down to save some dingbat who's been huffing paint.

The 12 steps work for some people, which is great. More power to 'em.

But lots of us will never be able to do the second step, or the third, even with the "as I understand Him" disclaimer. "Him." Mmhmm.
And forget about steps 6, 7, and 11.

Edit: had to go brush up on the steps for that last sentence and fix it. It's been awhile.

One also hears, "fake it until you make it." I chose the latter. Coming up on 34 years.

Here's another: WWJD

Too often, people who say these things go onto do exactly the opposite of what they should be doing.

Hypocrisy, thy name is religion.

It's about letting go of things you can't control so that you aren't so anxious about them.

I cannot stand when people post on social media some great thing that's happened in their lives and follow that announcement with various takes on "Blessed". As if you're telling me that an all powerful, all knowing deity just up and decided that of all of us ants on this planet that you should be particularly "blessed" today...guess the rest of us struggling today are just shit out of luck.
