Texas pastor who backed bill criminalizing abortion arrested
June 16, 2019
HOUSTON (AP) A former Southern Baptist pastor who supported legislation in Texas this year that would have criminalized abortions has been arrested on charges of child sex abuse.
Court records show that Stephen Bratton posted a $50,000 bond Saturday. The Houston Chronicle reports that 43-year-old Bratton is accused of molesting a teenage relative, sometimes multiple times a day.
It isnt clear whether Bratton has an attorney. The Associated Press couldnt locate a phone number for him Sunday.
Bratton was a pastor at Grace Family Baptist Church near Houston. He was outspoken in support of a bill that would have abolished abortions in Texas and threatened charging women who undergo the procedure with homicide.
Aaron Wright, another pastor at the church, says Bratton has been excommunicated.

The article also mentions that the abused relative was a girl. What level of hell would there be for him if he got her pregnant and then turned her in for having an abortion? Texas has the death penalty, btw, and it could apply to abortions.
The investigation began on May 16 after Bratton allegedly confessed to three Southern Baptist clergy members that he abused the child, according to court documents. Two of Bratton's co-pastors, Aaron Wright and Erin Frye, called the Harris County Sheriff's Office to their church on Bammel Westfield Road to take a report that same day, while the third pastor, David Shiflet, said he referred the complaint to the Department of Family Protective Services.

That's not the way these things usually go, after all.
