Foxes Seen at Temple Mount: Prophetic Proof Jerusalem Returning to Former Glory

“Catch us the foxes, The little foxes That ruin the vineyards— For our vineyard is in blossom.” (Song of Songs 2:15)

In a graphic materialization of the prophecy in Zechariah as explained in the Talmud, foxes are now being seen playing at the Temple Mount. It was reported in The Yeshiva World that visitors to the area have observed the group of about a dozen foxes in the southwestern area of the Western Wall for the last three days in the early hours of the day.

This precise scenario was discussed in the Talmud (Makkot 24b). Rabban Gamliel, Rabbi Elazar ben Azaria, Rabbi Joshua and Rabbi Akiva went up to Jerusalem. When they reached the Temple Mount, they saw a fox emerging from the place of the Holy of Holies. The others started weeping but Rabbi Akiva laughed. Rabbi Akiva asked the rabbis why they cried and they explained that to see a wild animal in such a holy place, a place which was forbidden to unfit men, was distressing. Rabbi Akiva explained that was precisely the reason he laughed. He explained that the fact that the prophecy of Uriah related by the Prophet Micah had come to be was proof that the prophecy of Zechariah would also come to be.

The Prophet Micah described the total destruction of Jerusalem.

Assuredly, because of you Tzion shall be plowed as a field, And Yerushalayim shall become heaps of ruins, And the Har Habayit A shrine in the woods. Micah 3:12

The Prophet Zechariah described the return of Jerusalem to its days of glory.
Thus said the lord of Hosts: There shall yet be old men and women in the squares of Yerushalayim, each with staff in hand because of their great age. And the squares of the city shall be crowded with boys and girls playing in the squares. Zechariah 4-5

Yah, that makes sense.

"the prophecy of Uriah related by the Prophet Micah had come to be was proof that the prophecy of Zechariah would also come to be."

These guys knew their shit - should have run for a political office.

that a prophecy has been fulfilled.

It says in Micah that Jerusalem will be destroyed. Not that starling a prediction, since that's set in the 8th century BC (whether or not that bit was written then), when the Assyrians were already pretty aggressive. Zechariah was written shortly after the return from Babylonian exile, and the quote is just "everything's going to be fine in the end". Nothing, of course, to do with foxes.

The excerpt from the Talmud is just a bit of stupid "everything in the Bible must be true" bollocks. It says "Micah was right that Jerusalem would be sacked, so Zechariah must be right that everything turns out good, because that's in out scriptures too. So don't worry about the fox." It doesn't make sense of course, but it's message was just "don't worry about minor things like foxes". So why on earth should seeing foxes again there be "Proof Jerusalem Returning to Former Glory"? If anyone can be more specific than "2,000 years ago" the bit from the Talmud was talking about was, that might help. 2,000 years ago, Jerusalem was under Roman control. 1,950 years ago, it got sacked again, after a revolt, and the 2nd temple was destroyed. If you really did think that the Talmud excerpt was telling you anything, it would be "bad times are just around the corner".

At best it made an open ended prediction that at some time in the future Jerusalem would get sacked again. Eventually, that happened. Cities getting repeatedly sacked was (and arguably still is) pretty much normal. Had the prophecy been specific about when it would have been impressive. As is it is about as impressive as the horseshit in nostra damas.

But carry on.

We got foxes!

Iirc, there is a “prophecy” about the destruction of Damascus which again iirc is the longest continuously inhabited city.

Blanford's fox inhabits semiarid regions, steppes, and mountains of Afghanistan, Egypt (Sinai), Turkestan,[6] northeast Iran, southwest Pakistan, the West Bank, and Israel.[7] It may also live throughout Arabia (particularly Oman, Yemen, and Jordan), as one was trapped in Dhofari region of Oman in 1984. Recent camera trapping surveys have confirmed the presence of the species in several places in the mountains of South Sinai, Egypt,[8] the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah[9] and Jebel Hafeet[10][11] in the UAE, and in Saudi Arabia.[12]

So we are to believe that this is the first time in 2000 years that an animal that lives in this region has been spotted here.

Maybe you should get your zoology from sources other than the Bible.

showed up somewhere? What a stretch of the imagination to think they are a sign of anything at all, much less that some OT prophesies said something about Jerusalem...

Foxes live there. So, they are seen there. Meaningless.

So, here is a video of a mother turkey and her poults, walking across lawns on my street. What does that mean?

Turkeys are so stupid they didn't check under our bird feeders. If they had, they'd never leave.
