(10,802 posts)Just decide exactly what you want to be told to think, what you must do, and what you must not do, and that will narrow down which brand of church you should attend.

(54,159 posts)Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism, but it's considered a different religion.
At some point, is a denomination that uses Jesus worship to rationalize an entitlement to material gain really the same religion as a denomination that seeks to follow his advice?

(2,343 posts)The more interpretations and opinions. I think we'll all find out in heaven what our preferred denomination got wrong. Some will found out theirs got more wrong than others. I won't name which onesI expect! LoL
My view is Christianity is pretty simple. There are about 6-10 main tenets. Most denominations complicated it by incorporating man-made flaws.

(4,261 posts)It's just that each person says what they think are the key tenets but there are so many contradictory opinions. You'd think a supreme being would be a better communicator.
People kill, rape and torture over who has the right opinion. Each person seemsvso sure their interpretation of a bronze/iron age text is right and applicable to modern societies. If theu weren't so fanatical about it I would be less critical.
I just was riffing off you saying what you think is true was more valid than other people's opinion. Not saying you are a fanatic, I appreciate your point of view and am sure we would get along fine if we met😎

(2,343 posts)Every believer should always have doubt that they have it all correct.
I am sure of this, though. If you're killing, torturing, raping, etc in the Christian journey for any reason, you're not doing it right.
Anyway, I appreciate the follow up!

All of the others are heretics.
