After the last page, I read all the Appendices, not wanting it to end. Frank Herbert had created a world in full. Everything I had read to that point toiching on desert ecology and human tribal cultures had been folded into this book. I graduated high school in 1965, and as I proceeded thru university, my undergraduate studies kind of backfilled my understanding of the richness of Herbert’s world. He clearly deeply understood science, tribal cultures of the deserts in the Middle East and Africa, and the formation and uses of religions.

I am not at all surprised that scholars of the past 30 years have confirmed the depth of his understanding, in this case of religious behavior.
