Wow, it's kinda exciting again to check
in on the Home Page of DU! I feel as if the democratic party is speaking with more courage and determination and conviction, as if backing down or any of the old "spineless" comments slung our way are part of somebody eles's bad dream from long ago now. Or is it just me? Something's emerging, or has already arrived! Hot-cha-cha! A new, beautiful Bazinga!

(37,684 posts)We are getting more and more speeches where they call these idiots out for what they are.
I loved it last night when Big Dog said, "Here's their deal..." and then went on to say how they messed up the economy and the country, Obama didn't straighten it out in four years, and so elect republicans again.
That was so sweet.
I love it that the facts for our speakers check out and yet with republicans, they can't even tell the truth about running a race.
This is something we've waited a long time for: leaders to express what we think and feel.

(713 posts)Did you catch Sandra Fluke's speech where she asked "Which reality do you want to live in?" And in Clinton's speech, him stating that the Republicans have got to be in an "alternate universe"...pretty interesting terminology being used this week. And all throughout the DNC, the talk has all been about unity, and we're all in this together, whereas the RNC's message was about individualism. Separateness vs. ONENESS...exactly what we know to be happening spiritually and it's all playing out right before our eyes.

(657 posts)I can't tell you how elated this whole convention has made me feel Everyone laughing and dancing. Everyone spoke truths, it's not all about money, it's about taking care of each other. So much love for humanity, that's what the R's miss, they don't care for people. It is so clear right now, you could have the sound off and still feel it. Amazing!

Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)a familiar, comfy pair of loafers. Speeches hit the target with an effortless panache.
I even said of Bill Clinton's speech, "Star quality". It's been a while since we had a treat like that.

(13,564 posts)I haven't felt this way since long before 2001, and certainly not for a long time after that.
I feel like a horrible storm is starting to die down and the tornado warning has expired. I hope this keeps on, I like this feeling. The last time I felt this way was 20 years ago when Bill Clinton was running for President.

(10 posts)After that "vote" on the reinstatement of Jerusalem on the plank was absolutely ignored? They needed 2/3rds and didn't even get half the crowd to agree with their position.
We no longer have a democracy. When it takes half a billion dollars to get name recognition and be considered a "legitimate" candidate, who the eff can/will run?
Why are people so easily cowed and easily amused? Do you know about NDAA? It's already being used, to chilling effect.
Osho (formerly Rajneesh) once said something to the effect that when we worship someone like a guru (could be a Presidential candidate), we are acting as if it's outside us to be the same way.
We need to grow up and stop needing to worship somebody. It's all projection and it's childish. It's a fantasy parent complex. The truth is staring us in the face and we get distracted by theatrics and looks and crumbs thrown our way (or the promise thereof).

(6,002 posts)to clear the debris and right what's been wronged for a very long time. No worship, no gurus, but yeah, finally, people are BEGINNING to wake up. It's taken a whole lot of suffering along the way. Sure, theatrics are displayed during these elections, we get it. I'm happy that finally some lies & the hatred are being exposed & being called out, whereas before no one even addressed the obvious.
What's encouraging is the beginning of seeing hate for what it is. Don't think for one minute anyone here is happy to settle in and be accepting and adoring. Criticism is expected in a democracy & we've got plenty of it for our own...for now, I'll be happy to see some whittling away at the end of the obstructionism that has created deadlock...we sure the heck are not even close to breaking that yet.
You may need to check your own projections at the door. You clearly don't know this group, nor do you know our own individual beliefs on any subject.
For now, I will take some encouragement where I find it & there is change in the air, for that I'm grateful. Forward, never backward.
As for the issues you cite, have at it. There's much work to be done.

I felt my Catholic roots stir, and you know what? "We ARE better than that"!
I'm putting aside everything I saw/see as wrong, to remembering, we can & we do make a difference.
People like Sr. Campbell are exactly what's right with this country. Let your divine feminine shine & strive for that kind of caring, that's what it's all about after all isn't it? Life, love & wanting better for ALL. That makes all the difference.

(13,564 posts)Things are going better NOW, not perfect, but better. There is a better energy, there always has to be a first step on every journey.
Or we can complain our fucking feet hurt too much and no one could possibly understand and we will just crawl back into bed because how dare anyone find anything encouraging about starting a journey anyway???????

The energy in Charlotte the past 3 days was amazing. You could see how powerful that energy is. If people were all like that what a fantastic world this would be. I especially liked James Taylor.
They've been complaining since 2008, not a peep for 8 yrs. they are so wrapped in the game of it all, if things were great they would be upset, go figure. But look how much more power is in love, acceptance, compared to hatred and intolerance. What we want we want for them too.
It wasn't about idols or one person. It was about people, all of us.

(21,046 posts)Heard this from an old white guy, I assume a teapartier, at the drug store. He said that to the clerk.
I assume he can't stand all those positive people at the Democratic Convention. This was late on Friday afternoon.
The people around me are hateful and angry and paranoid. Collecting guns and ammo and spreading false rumors about those riots coming up in January.
I think their negativity eats them up, literally. I figure they might burn themselves out with hate. They can't stand that N***** in the White House. I wish they would move to Somalia since they hate America and everybody who is not an old tea party white guy.

(657 posts)They spoke about the 21 century and how we need to move into it. Every speech was about beautiful futuristic goals. They have been keeping us from moving forward for years, but time keeps moving and there hold is weakening. They will have to give in or be left behind.
In industry look at the car co. When we gave the bail out, it had stipulations, that they move into the future, ( which was why they were doing bad), they agreed and they are on top again. Other co's have to be looking at this and saying they're are getting paid to stay behind but look what happens when you take that leap forward. Their days are numbered. It's inevitable.
