Have you tried to get her meds covered via the pharmaceutical companies' patient assistance programs? I think her prescribing physician will need to initiate that for you, so it's something you'll want to do right away.

As for ongoing therapy and/or treatment, maybe by some miracle you live in an area which has good social service programs for those without insurance coverage and with low/no income. Some areas are wonderful, others aren't.

I suspect that the social service programs that could help her won't be available until 2014 if, Goddess willing, President Obama gets re-elected and Obamacare stays in place.

When I had trouble getting insurance, I went to a broker a friend recommended. I had been without insurance for a number of years because of pre- existing conditions. I was able to get good insurance because they know how to work the system.

Get insurance before the other plan ends! That is absolutely the most important thing. Better to have a huge deductible than no insurance. It is also impossible to get insurance if you have three things wrong with you, even if they are minor. So be careful how she answers the questions.
