Ohmigosh! I'm so anxious, I can't even concentrate!
Lat Saturday, my daughter went for her first round of auditions for a magnet school. Today is the day we find out whether or not she passed the first hurdle for acceptance. If she did, she goes on to the final round a week from Saturday. If she didn't, game over.
It's super competitive: almost 500 applied, 80 get a "yes" today and only 25 make the final cut.
Someone tell me to breathe, please!

(3,997 posts)I haven't heard anything and today was the day they contacted the call backs. She absolutely hates her current school. She's going to be crushed.

(31,411 posts)My two older kids went to our state's math and science academy when they were in high school. It opened doors for them, and was a very positive experience.
Our youngest did not make it. While she was disappointed, her life did not suffer. She made it through our small, rural high school and was salutatorian. She was part of the honors program at Iowa State, and graduated with honors. She made several honors societies. She became a caucus leader, and met every Democratic politician under the sun. (Iowa gets everyone). Later, she studied in Bolivia and lived in Mexico. She has the job she wants, because she speaks Spanish.
I came to believe that our Illinois Math and Science Academy made the right decision. Her talent is languages, and a couple of other things. She thrived in college, and is thriving now.
There is life beyond a magnet school rejection! Tell your daughter to do well where she is, and go on to make the life choices that suit her future best. Hugs and best of luck to you and your daughter!

But remember, always, that if she doesn't make it, there may be a good reason. The grass is not always greener, and she may be able to accomplish more where she is.
