woodpecker in my back yard

I first heard him yesterday morning. This morning I decided to try to see exactly where he is, because his tapping is really loud and close. Turns out he's about 10 feet from my house and 5 feet up. Tapping on the metal pole I posted to hang the clothes line on if it ever stops raining.

I've have them tapping on shed roofs and also along the rain gutters of the house.
Last year a flicker spent a lot of time tapping on the metal frame from the old windmill.

I had one tapping like crazy on my chimney last year. Good to know he's claimed my house as his territory. Glad he lets me continue to live here

I didn't know they were tapping for bugs. I thought they were tapping nests out of tree trunks. Or chimneys. Or metal poles!

Next time I hear him, I'll have to tape it and send to somebody who knows Morse. Cause other than dot-dot-dot dash-dash-dash dot-dot-dot I don't know any Morse. If it's not a theme on S.O.S., it's greek to me...
