Domingo, my sun conure, will be leaving soon. Please join me in healing light for an easy passage...

Domingo has been with me for 18 years, so she is likely somewhere between 18 and 19 years old (they live 18-20 years). Her breeder had 2 stores; they would go to the big city store first, and if they didn't find a home, then he'd move them to the country store where I found her.

She was a wonderful companion when I first got her. She would sit on my shoulder for hours and gently preen my hair, my eyebrows, and even comb out my eyelashes. She lived with my mixed flock, however, and at some point she and my lovebird, Joey, bonded and she dumped me .

Lovebirds live about 14 years; Joey made it to 15. I thought Domingo might return to being my companion once she was single again, but alas she'd decided to remain single. Until Sage, the peachface I got to help Papaya when he lost his mate, Peaches, became single with Papaya's passing.

So Domingo and Sage have been lovers for a while now. This past spring, I was shocked when Domingo started laying quite a few eggs. Too many for her age, to be sure. But I couldn't bring myself to separate them.

Yesterday, I noticed she was napping with her beak hooked over a bar of her cage. Joey did this toward the end, as he became to weak to balance normally. She also didn't look too good after her most recent egg, which had been laid earlier in the day. This morning, there was a lot of left over food in their dishes. I haven't seen her eat today; she hasn't even left her perch. And now her wings and tail are drooping. So she is going downhill, not recovering...

Going thru the same with my kitties. I lost my first cat a few yrs back. She was 19, I have 2 now and they are getting up there. I've been noticing them acting in similar ways before she went.
