The farther along I get on my faith journey...
...and the more I study the Bible, the harder it is for me to understand how any true Christain could support any Republican agenda. It genuinely makes no sense to me.

if you are wealthy it is because you are a great person.

(12,238 posts)...it just seems to me that many, many Republicans interpret the Bible to suit their own beliefs, which so often are antithetical to what the word is actually saying.. Jeff Session's application of the apostle Paul during the immigration debate being the obvious example of that.

(42,649 posts)Serial adulterer Newt Gingrich speaks of forgiveness, and Jesus counselled forgiveness, 7 times 70, but also said to go and sin no more.
Apparently Gingrich did not read to the end of the verse.

(28,270 posts)You could not find people who are further away from the teachings of Jesus than Trump and the pious hypocrites who follow him.
Their own words condemn them.
Jerry Falwell Jr.
Does this so called evangelical Christian leader really follow the Lord Jesus that was born in a animal stable to poor parents?
The Lord that warns not to build up treasure on earth? The Lord that told the rich man to sell all he owned and give it to the poor?
The poor that the Trump cult so obviously despise with every fiber of their being!

(109 posts)If you pay attention to what THEY read, hear from their preachers, and then quote, you will find that
it's not the same as what WE read and like and quote and act on.
Whereas we LIBERALS relate to the BEST teaching of the bible, i.e. the Gospels (i.e "good news" to the poor and the downtrodden http://LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/Christlike
what THEY most love and quote is the "bad news" of Paul of Tarsus,
as I show at http://WhatWouldJesusThink.info/AboutBadNewsPaul !

(4 posts)I am always puzzled by Republicans and indeed others who wear the lapel of Christianity with pride, but then somehow manage to reconcile in their head things like their support for capital punishment, their opposition to universal public health care, their lack of concern for the marginalized in their midst, their enthusiasm for Donald Trump or their embrace of the prosperity gospel with the teachings of Christ.
