Came across an interesting new liberal faith-based group, Vote Common Good.

Vote Common Good has a number of progressive faith leaders on the board. They just put out a video that interviews a number of people who voted the wrong way in 2016 but have awakened to how bad that choice was. [Having trouble with the link. Hope it works this time.

&link_id=1&can_id=41b59519388eb812d95dbcc044f9f021&source=email-electionary-and-our-upcoming-town-hall-forum&email_referrer=email_802837&email_subject=hindsight-2020-changed-minds-changed-votes]

Their faith often plays a role in how they came to change their minds. I thought those interviews were very interesting and encouraging.

I hope their words will make those who say things like "I'll never forgive anyone who voted for Trump!" realize that there's hope for many former Trump voters and make room for them to change their minds.

Historically after the Civil War and World War I, the harsh treatment the losers were subjected to spawned hostility that led to a new generation of conflict. Those who say they'll never forgive may just be venting, I hope. It's understandable but not necessarily wise.

The reasonable and even generous Marshall Plan after WWII and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after the end of apartheid show ways to stop the legacy of bitterness. I hope that crimes will be prosecuted but also that there will be our own version of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission committed to bringing everything into the light. Not just actual crimes but also unethical or unwise actions. The toxic stew needs the disinfectant of a bright light and unexpected and undeserved grace.

I don't know if it has run together with your post or what, but it won't work for me.

I'm not religious, but I can deal with religious-types who are tolerant and respectful of others.

Religious-types who are anything else have missed the point. Plus they are often downright harmful.

I can accept a change of heart but don’t see the need to forgive them for dump in the first place.

Not all who voted for Trump are racists, or greedy. Some truly wanted to believe that Trump could do what he said that he would do.

Labels (from both sides) block us from breaking through our stereotypes to really listen and hear one another.

Vote Common Good may be on to something!

Trump, and the GOP, must divide to win.

But if we can speak to the other side, we might have productive dialogue with some.

They're very good. I even have a "Love in Politics" sticker on my laptop that I got from them at that concert.
