Even John Piper Recognizes the Hypocrisy of the American Evangelicals

John Piper today laid out his thoughts on how he is going to vote. He did not explicitly state who he was going to vote for. But, you can easily see where he is leaning. May I add I disagree with much of what he says. Nevertheless, I was struck by the denunciation of the willingness of a majority of White evangelicals to so easily dismiss Trump's own unrepented sins. Piper recognizes the caste system that the American church has today for viewing some sins as worse than others, when truth be told, they are all equal in God's eyes.

Actually, this is a long-overdue article attempting to explain why I remain baffled that so many Christians consider the sins of unrepentant sexual immorality (porneia), unrepentant boastfulness (alazoneia), unrepentant vulgarity (aischrologia), unrepentant factiousness (dichostasiai), and the like, to be only toxic for our nation, while policies that endorse baby-killing, sex-switching, freedom-limiting, and socialistic overreach are viewed as deadly.

Forgiveness through Christ is always possible where there is repentance and childlike trust in Jesus. But where humble repentance is absent, the sins condemn

If for nothing else, the last four years of Trump's presidency have revealed how sick the Christian church in America is today!

...and, from this article, it seems pretty clear that he is not voting for Trump.

For those in the "religious right" camp, and particularly those who make everything about abortion, he makes an interesting argument: that a leader like the one we have now (although he doesn't specify him by name) promotes and normalizes all the character vices that lead to a world-view that makes human life unimportant; so it can be said that such a leader, even if he espouses "pro-life" policies, actually reinforces the conventional wisdom that makes "baby-killing" (to use Piper's term) acceptable.

... there is no virtue in choosing only one right-to-life position. Pope Francis is one of them. Maybe Piper was at the heart of some of those stories.
