I am so jazzed I have been awarded an honorary doctorate
I know this isn't important in the political scheme of things, but Friday I was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Sacred Music. This is from a Christian University and also a Presbyterian seminary.
I have worked all my life off and on with churches singing and planning liturgy and often times presiding.
I have sung for everything from the installation of a bishop to weddings, baptism, funerals etc. I have sung in chapels, churches, temples, cathedrals, cemeteries, schools, colleges, jails, blood banks, prisons, planes, busses, trains and even a cab.
As a child I sang for the Vatican and have sung in 5 continents, 54 nations, 500+ villages, towns and cities for 31 different denominations 19 languages and 1250 plus congregations.
For me, it started when I was 9 years old and figured that song would be the main vehicle of the expression of my faith. I have led several regional and national tours and have directed choirs in the Roman Catholic, United Methodist and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Sacred Music has opened many doors for me and I am humbled and grateful for this honor. Just had to share with my DU community....now I can go back to being political.....

My claim to fame in sacred music was to finally be able to sing the tenor parts of the Messiah. That was a looooong time ago, before my voice changed. I've had some fun withe bass parts, and I'd love to be able to sing it again.
