Christian Nationalism
Imagine a nation based on the values that Jesus taught.
Love thy neighbor
Turn the other cheek
Forgive
Help the sick, the poor
As a Christian, I would welcome true Christian Nationalism.
Has anyone else ever had thoughts like this?

(29,162 posts)No. Christianity, in general, has been hijacked by the right and perverted into something it is not.
The prosperity gospel et al. Republican Jesus riding a t-rex and carrying a rifle. And so on..

(16,825 posts)That implies that your "Christian" values only apply within your national borders.
Not sure your Jesus would understand that reasoning.

(29,162 posts)I've been toying with my border policy beliefs lately.
I know that it is not politically popular, but I support and open border and universal citizenship.
Jesus would certainly not think a soul of foreign citizenship was any less of a soul.

(14,800 posts)It has a great many flaws, not least of which is a failure to comprehend that Christianity is a universal faith that transcends national borders.
We could be here all day pointing out the many flaws in what gets termed "Christian Nationalism", from historical precedents to sectarianism. But a good place to start is with St Paul, his missions to the Gentiles, and in particular the Epistle to the Galatians. I visited his resting place at St Pauls Outside the Walls last month and his example is very different to that you'll see with self professed "Christian Nationalists".
