(Jewish Group) Sunrise: DC chapter's singling out of Jewish groups is 'antisemitic and unacceptable'

Sunrise movement: DC chapter’s singling out of Jewish groups is ‘antisemitic and unacceptable’

The national Sunrise Movement, an environmental advocacy group, said that a statement by its Washington D.C. chapter was “unacceptable and antisemitic” because it called for disassociating from progressive Jewish organizations for their Israel policies.

“To be clear, Sunrise DC’s statement and actions are not in line with our values,” the Sunrise Movement said Friday on Twitter. “Singling out Jewish organizations for removal from a coalition, despite others holding similar views, is antisemitic and unacceptable.”

Sunrise DC this week called for the removal of three progressive Jewish groups from a voting rights coalition: the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), the Reform movement’s Religious Action Center (RAC) and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. The affiliate cited their Israel ties and policies, even though several non-Jewish groups in the coalition shared many of their stances toward Israel.

That brought condemnations from Jewish organizations, as well as calls on the national Sunrise movement to distance itself from its Washington D.C. chapter.

It's possible, but more likely is the acceptability of some when it comes to anti-Semitism. Behind the Aegis Oct 2021 #2

Wonder if they are getting their cues from the former women’s March founders?

There are those on our side who have it in their mind that Jews, as a people, are "privileged " and therefore, fair game for "punching up". Bigotry against us isn't really bigotry and us calling out anti-Semitism is equated to nothing more than akin to white people screeching "reverse racism".

Two days after the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Sunrise Movement, a powerful environmental advocacy group, announced it would not join a voting rights coalition due to the presence of “Zionist organizations,” the national Sunrise Movement released a statement condemning antisemitism and “anti-Palestinian racism” but did not condemn the Washington chapter’s decision, drawing ire from Jewish leaders.

“Many allies, Jewish leaders and climate activists reached out and gave the Sunrise Movement every opportunity to clean this up. And they made it worse,” said Rabbi Jonah Pesner, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC), the movement’s political and legislative arm.

His tone marks a sharp departure from the RAC’s original posture toward Sunrise DC, when Pesner issued a statement that did not mention Sunrise DC by name or address whether its stance was antisemitic.

“No other community faces a litmus test for entry. That’s what bigotry looks like,” Pesner added in his comments to Jewish Insider yesterday. “Sometimes people in the progressive movement have trouble understanding the truth of antisemitism, and we need them to get it right. Especially for those of us who literally spend our lives and put our bodies on the line for civil and human rights.”

4. I am not a fan of this organization or its affiliate Justice Democrats

I have been following the Justice Democrats and its predecessor for a while including the "brand new congress" group and other groups created by Cenk, Kyle Kulinksi and their ilk. I am on the Justice Democrat email list and I have even listened once or twice to the Justice Democrat podcast which is amusingly called "Just Us" democrats. The Justice Democrats emails are fun to laugh at and I love the hatred this group shows to the Democratic Party, establishment Democrats and best of all "corporate democrats." The posts attacking the DCCC for raising money to elect real Democrats are really amusing.

I have been following number of posters on twitter who dislike the Justice Democrats. There are a large number posters on twitter who have issues with the concept of the Justice Democrat group wanting to take over the Democratic party and remake into their image. I am a regular democrat who does not want the Democratic Party to be taken over by the Justice Democrat group.

Other posters have issues with the concept that the Justice Democrats want to take over the Democratic Party

Again the above posts are consistent with the hatred of the Democratic Party that I see on the almost daily emails that I get from the Justice Democrats. Do you approve of the hatred of the DCCC, the mainstream Democratic Party, corporate Democrats, and establishment Democrats? I have worked inside the party for decades and I find these attacks distasteful

Both the Just Us Democrats and the Sunrise Movement are groups who I keep away from
