and select TOS. Even if the post is not hidden, the alert will go the administrators if TOS is checked. I have seen them PPR people for bigotry even when a post was not hidden.

When you send an alert, there are a few options. Typically one selects the box that says "this post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate." When you do, another box opens up. It says:

Does this post include a Terms of Service violation? Check the box below if: This post shows that the author is a wingnut; this post shows that the author does not vote for Democrats; this post includes bigoted hate speech, crazy talk, threats, private/personal information, shock content, pornography, commercial spam, illegal activity, malicious computer code, or similarly disruptive content. (See Terms of Service.)

If you select that box, the alert will go to the administrators (Skinner and EarlG) regardless of whether the jury hides it. If they see something really bad or a pattern of bigoted posts, they will ban the user.

Now truthfully, some forms of bigotry are treated more seriously than others. It appear to me that sexism and Islamophobia are not treated as seriously as others, but it's still worth alerting. After the Boston bombing, at least one member was banned for Islamophobia. His was a really egregious case.

If the post is hidden and TOS is selected, a report goes to MIRT (malicious intruder removal team). I'm on MIRT this term, and I have no tolerance for bigotry of any kind. So if I see something like that, I will insist it go to the administrators for closer review.

Another thing you can do is PM Skinner or EarlG if you want to draw particular attention to a post. Make sure you alert if you're going to do that, however, since they will want the jury system to have an opportunity to deal with it. I have never seen them hide a post, but they do regularly ban members.

I really appreciate your help. You see I often find overt and upsetting Islamaphobic posts here. It is as if one were take Westboro Baptists were to be taken as representative of all Christians.

Anytime we demonize a group of people we are starting down a dangerous road.

Excuse me. Was that the same thread in which you compared FGM to cosmetic vaginal surgery?

It's one thing to decry intolerance. It's another to desperately throw up excuses for barbarous sexism.

more carefully read my comments, you will see it had a link to an article whose headline is:
Cosmetic Vaginal Surgeons Clueless About Female Sexuality
Here, read and learn.... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/angela-bonavoglia/cosmetic-vaginal-surgeons_b_475929.html

Or if you would like to actually go to the source...look here:
http://www.iscgyn.com/en/procedures_vaginal

To be looking "over there" and comment on things you actually are not involved in, while these things are going on in your own back yard seems rather misplaced concern and perhaps rather something else.
