The Sackler family, owners of opioid-producer Purdue Pharma, has donated to several anti-Muslim groups in the past, a report shows.
Richard and Beth Sackler Foundation donated to four anti-Muslim hate groups as considered so by the Southern Poverty Law Center from 2014-2016, according to Sludge, an independent, reader-funded investigative publication.
The groups were the American Freedom Law Center, the David Horowitz Freedom Center, Jihad Watch a spin-off of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and the American Freedom Defense Initiative.
In 2017, a Sackler Foundation spokesperson said it was never their intention to donate to an anti-Muslim or hate group. The foundation did not donate to those groups that year.
The Sacklers also donated to groups not designated as hate groups by the SPCL, but were nevertheless founded or run by prominent anti-Muslim figures.
