Prayer Circle
Related: About this forumRequesting prayers for my son in emergency room with Covid.
He's unvaccinated, of course, despite my and his sister's entreaties.
I've spoken with his ER, nurse, who tells me he is stable.
He's had Covid for 8-9 days, but tried to keep it to himself and get well on his own.
Has gone down the last few days, today the worst apparently.
I'm very angry with him, but also scared for him.
Please, God, spare my boy, now a middle-aged but not always reasonable man.
Lord, have mercy.

(5,193 posts)Sick as he was, he had to drive himself to the nearest ER.
His job evaporated during pandemic - little to no insurance, though he has some funds and a house.
Single, no kids.
Thanks for your prayerful intercession.

(30,994 posts)Mine doesn't have Covid (yet) but it may just be a matter of time. He's also medically vulnerable.
I wouldn't waste your energy on anger; people make their choices based on their own perspectives. To them, it makes sense. I've had to overlook our political differences so that it doesn't get in the way of our love for each other.
I hope your son pulls out of it okay. I am sending good thoughts for him.

(5,193 posts)Up until the need for Covid vaccination, we just don't discuss political differences.
I felt, and continue to feel, that it's more a moral issue, with vulnerable family, not to mention the rest of society.
He stated - on social media- that he believed his natural immunity would keep him safe!.
Very tough to hear when a loved one is stuck on an unreal thought process.

(20,534 posts)Spare this one from any demise of the virus. Hear the plea of his mother, and from me, an unworthy servant. Deliver him from the coronavirus so he will be emboldened in witnessing and proclaiming Your Great Love and Compassion.

(5,193 posts)I believe the nurse told me he would have to be admitted for Remdesavir and other treatments.
Good news and bad news: It he doesn't need admittance that means he's not critically ill, but can't get more advanced meds.

(13,524 posts)I really see excellent outcomes with the early onset treatment interventions...In the 10 day window...
Here is a list of treatment modalities:
https://combatcovid.hhs.gov/i-have-covid-19-now/available-covid-19-treatment-options
SNIP>
Monoclonal antibody treatments: The FDA has issued Emergency Use Authorization for two investigational monoclonal antibody treatments that can attach to SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. These antibodies could help your immune system recognize and respond more effectively to the virus.
These treatments have been authorized for patients with mild to moderate cases. This includes those who have had symptoms for 10 days or less, who are 12 years of age and older, and who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization. It also includes people who are 65 years old or older, and for people who have certain chronic medical conditions. Learn more about antibody treatments with: etesevimab and bamlanivimab or casirivimab and imdevimab.
The Casirivimab-Imdevimab...also known as REGEN-COV is the one I see used most often at this time...
little news clip..... https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/2021/08/14/antibody-treatment-coming-to-jacksonville/
There is no cost for the antibodies themselves, but the facility may charge for the infusion (giving the treatment by IV). Medicare covers the IV treatment costs, but Medicaid coverage is different in each state. Many large private insurance plans cover all costs, but you should check with yours to find out for sure. If you do not have insurance, ask the treatment facility if there are any fees....END>

(24,041 posts)I know 2 people who got the treatments when they went to the hospital. The husband was doing poorly and is still doing poorly in ICU for 5 days, it did nothing for him. Wife wasn't as sick, she responded well to the treatment and was released after 1-2 days. I know this is just anecdotal, but it sure isn't the 90% efficacy they are claiming. I think it's being hyped by rw and isn't as good as said. Not as bad as hydroxchloroquine, which increases the deaths due to heart issues, but not nearly as good as claimed.
Since Death Sentence bought millions of dollars of this, same as he did with hydroxychloroquine, I would be hard pressed to have any faith in it whatsoever. IMO It's just another way for repugs to pretend to care but continue to kill us and profit highly off of it.

(13,524 posts)This therapy is fabulous.... a true life saver.....I have seen about 75 people get this.... the earlier in the 10 day window was best results...Just telling you what I have seen out in the field.

(24,041 posts)That's what Kemp and Death Sentence are attempting.
This is essentially the first line of treatment for mild to moderate covid-19 infection...it is almost standard....So, if I understand you correctly, these insane tRumpster grifting governors know this and thus feel, "safe" to continue pushing no vaccine....That is sick!

(5,193 posts)admitted to the hospital , so I'm presuming he somehow got back home and likely crawled into bed.
All of which would mean the ER doctors felt he was not so seriously ill that he needed hospital care, etc.
I'll give him a rest overnight and see what I can find out Tuesday.
I so deeply appreciate the caring, the prayers, and good wishes (and advice) of these DUers who reached out.
Your support was/is so comforting when under ongoing stress.
I'll send up thankful prayers for all of you tonight, for your own needs as well.
Love you all.

(1,996 posts)My cousin was admitted the day after the ER sent her home.
She returned the next day, was admitted and then lost consciousness for 2 days. After her fever broke they weaned her off oxygen, and kept her to make sure she was stable and breathing ok. It was just as hospitals started to get overwhelmed from this Delta surge in FL, late July. Meanwhile her boyfriend and son were home sick with it. Her son recovered, but the bf was still sick when she was released after 10 days.
She convinced him to go to hospital, he was put on oxygen, they kept him 4-5 days, released him the minute his oxygen levels hit 95. They didn't care if he was stable because they needed the bed. He still feels like crap. So does my cousin. Her son, late 30's, went back to work.
I hope your son recovers. I feel compelled to say this: Keep checking on him, he may need to go back to the ER. Oxygen levels can drop causing confusion and irrational behavior before causing further harm, and covid pneumonia is also a thing I've heard about. Many hospitals are overwhelmed by this surge. Sending healing thoughts.
Please keep us posted.

(5,193 posts)He has been to ER on two separate occasions, a day or so apart.
He told his sister he had diarrhea, but I know it would have to be pretty bad to have to drive oneself to hospital with such a condition going on.
I'll copy his email to me from this morning, so all those interested can see.
I deeply appreciate the concern shown here on DU.
I'm reluctant to share his situation on public social media, inasmuch as it's his private medical issue and could make him look publicly foolish for his reluctance when this is behind him & he wishes to apply for work, etc.
Hope your cousin and family continue to make progress. I have another son, lives in FL, also unvaccinated. You can imagine the concern.
