(3,829 posts)What is the propagation rate of original sin?
Assuming other living creatures with souls exist - when Adam and Eve chomped the apple and condemned everyone for all time, how quickly did that affect others beyond the Adam's family neighborhood? Was it instantaneous? It would seem so because sin is not a physical phenomenon and is not subject to the limitation that no thing can travel faster than light. Or, is sin something that has a quantum like characteristic and doesn't exist until it's observed the first time? That would mean that sweet Miss Shuler, who had the Bible club I got kicked out of in 1st grade, should have kept her mouth shut because I was living a blissful guilt free life until she mentioned the whole concept and created angst for me and all the other kiddies assembled in her parlor.
And, given the fact that most places have a church on every corner, shouldn't the zealots be focused on the possible sentient creatures who are "out there"? The zealots have pretty much locked up this market; maybe they should get all their programs off cable and back on real through-the-ether broadcasting to reach the lost ones in deep space who need to know how we Earthlings have fucked them over forever.
The responses given on the few occasions I have asked these things have ranged from vacant stares to "Well, maybe we should do something" to a roll-of-the-eyes, which is appropriate, given that I know, and apparently the believer I'm asking also knows, that the entire subject, from end-to-end, is nonsense.
So, as Forrest Gump said, "That's all I have to say about that." Maybe if I had not broken out the chardonnay at 7 pm I would not have posted any of this.
