More serious was his literary (not scientific) plagiarism, for which he did lose his position as president of the Institute for Advanced Studies for Science and Technology (IHEST) in Paris, 4 years ago:

I saw it. I laughed.

I teach high school science and I wasn't duped. Apparently you teach sophomore chemistry and the occasional astronomy class (without a science degree, mind you) and you're smarter and more alert than the offendeds.
