with the students, and the obvious love everyone has for Prof. Strang.

I remember doing the fairly tedious linear equations way back when. Then discovered some early LinPack/LinPro modules back in the early 70s. Amazing. Then got interested in non-linear programming and realized that computers were the only feasible way to deal with these types of programming.
