(7,515 posts)To paraphrase Forrest Gump, "Evil is as evil does."
We never want any religion to wield that kind of power in the United States, or anywhere else for that matter.
Our Founding Fathers separated church and state for good reason.
They need to be kept separate.

(4,318 posts)The ban on abortion comes to mind. Then there are states that go even further. Alabama has just ruled that fertilized eggs are human life, even if they are frozen and outside a body.
Idaho and Texas have criminalized helping a women to get an abortion.
The Slippery slope is getting crowded.

Ever since people (men mainly) decided to claim divine authority.
Aztecs, Incas, Muslim, Christian, Jewish ... the list goes on.

(1,665 posts)He said words akin to what they were saying.. "What if Trump bows out and Mike Johnson steps up and becomes President."
"He could bring our Holy God's power to change this country"
My words were something like. ...I'd rather be in Timbuctoo or Afghanistan or even some other horrible place.

Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition 1st Edition
by Frances A. Yates
Placing Brunoboth advanced philosopher and magician burned at the stakein the Hermetic tradition, Yates's acclaimed study gives an overview not only of Renaissance humanism but of its interplayand conflictwith magic and occult practices.
"Among those who have explored the intellectual world of the sixteenth century no one in England can rival Miss Yates. Wherever she looks, she illuminates. Now she has looked on Bruno. This brilliant book takes time to digest, but it is an intellectual adventure to read it. Historians of ideas, of religion, and of science will study it. Some of them, after reading it, will have to think again. . . . For Miss Yates has put Bruno, for the first time, in his tradition, and has shown what that tradition was."Hugh Trevor-Roper, New Statesman
