Japanese honeybees slap ants to defend their hive

New Scientist
Jul 18 2024

Ants invade honeybee nests, seeking to steal honey, prey on eggs or kill worker bees. Footage from a high-speed camera shows that guard bees, positioned near a nest’s entrance, tilt their bodies towards an approaching ant, and then flutter their wings while they pivot away. A successful hit sends the ant flying.

Download an app to my iPhone that can identify the tune in the soundtrack.

Thanks, and good morning.

I'm a little surprised that New Scientist didn't include the credit in their description.

It reminds me a bit of The Third Man theme:

And good morning to you.

Have you ever seen the great, great movie "The Atomic Cafe"? A lot of the soundtrack sounds like that.

This documentary cult classic returns to theaters in a sparkling 4K digital restoration created by IndieCollect starting August 1 at Film Forum in New York.

Armageddon has never been so darkly funny as in The Atomic Cafe. This 1982 cult classic juxtaposes Cold War history, propaganda, music and culture, seamlessly crafted from government-produced educational and training films, newsreels and advertisements. Taken together, these sources cheerily instruct the public on how to live in the Atomic Age, how to survive a nuclear attack (!) ... and how to fight and win a nuclear war. As a U.S. Army training film advises, "Viewed from a safe distance, the atomic bomb is one of the most beautiful sights ever seen by man." Returning to theaters in a sparkling 4K digital restoration created by IndieCollect, The Atomic Cafe is an absurdist blast from the past that would be downright laughable if it weren’t so eerily relevant to our fake news present.

I'm about to watch it and I'm going to keep that Wiki open to use as a reference. Not something that would have occurred to me. Well, maybe it would have, right about the time the movie's almost over.

Thank you.
