Took a bit of time to get up there but I made it.. It just looked like a bunch of stones (lots of stones around there) but the give away was the two vertical and a horizontal across the top A lintel. Man put it there The little plaque informed the visitor that the structure was believed to be the tomb of a chief of some 4ooo years BCE... Thats old... He/she got a beautiful place to rest The views were amazing. The land around Sligo and Donegal are magical ..

meanwhile, i am tracing my tree, and learning all the drinking songs, and the tin whistle.

and my da would be so proud of the brogue i have. it's started w just picking up a lilt singing along w irish singers. but my voice teacher gave me a couple of tips, and sure and begora, i can pass, i think.

been taking voice lessons for a couple of months now, and cant wait to hang out in irish pubs, and sing for pints and proposals.
i have found a couple cousins i am dying to meet.
imma stay in kinnity castle. it's a b&b now, and said to be 1 of the most haunted places in ireland.
i cant wait to see if the haints will talk to me.
kinnity is where my grandpa was born.

i am entitled to citizenship on both sides of the family.
and the great michael dwyer is my many times great uncle. i havent figured out how many generations yet, cuz there is a michael in every damn generation!

narrow. I can't tell you how many times we met an on coming car and had to back up to a place to let him pass. I had a euro version of a Nissan rogue. Called a Qashqai. In Ireland it was huge vehicle. Ireland is relatively small.. About the size of Indiana.From the Sligo on the west coast to Dublin on the east coast is only 3 ½ hrs by train.. I had to make my Guinness pilgrimage
I should have gotten a Mini, or Audi a3... So much to see and do. In the west, north west there are places in Connamara that people still only speak Irish... Irish radio stations and Irish TV programs also. They have been teaching the Irish language in schools for years. Many signs are bi lingual... You'll have a blast. And just in case the fecal material hits the rotating oscillator get your irish citizenship....
Oh and BTW I'm not Irish!! but I love the place.. And they kinda sorta speak english.. Two countries divided by a common language

i def wont go till i get my passport. my ex married an irish woman from donnybrook. a chicago cop. lol. she says they dont take kindly to americans who think they are irish. i dont think that is real widespread there. i suspect she sorta means me.

i have one of those old guinness signs. the one w the toucan.
the brewery will be 1 of my first stops, fersher. kinnity is pretty central, so i will be able to get to most places in a reasonable time.
i'm hoping before i go to track down the places my family lived. they are from all over the country. who knows, maybe one of the old farms will be for sale. the only other place in the world i would live, besides where i am right now, is a farm in ireland.

You get use to it pretty quick. With traffic you know what to do. I had two problems. Driving without other cars around as a guide and corners could be a bit dangerous if your still thinking US. Leaving the airport in Shannon, big signs telling you...GO LEFT GO LEFT GO LEFT....
When you open your mouth and american spills out, someone will always ask if you are in ireland to find your "roots". I was unique to a few b/c I did not have any irish heritage and just came for a 'look see"...The place is dripping with history... Like I did not know that where was such a huge trade with Spain!!! Hundreds of years back and forth trade... Who'd of thunk??? I was told that's where the term "Black Irish" came from.. Inter marrage between dark haired dark skinned Spaniards and The irish...
SIM cards for you phone are really inexpensive.... like $25 for a bucket load of data. I used Google maps for Ireland and it was perfect...Better than my Gps...

i suspect once i get there i will just have a bit of a lilt. i was talking to a friend of mine recently who came here from mayo. she has zero accent, but talking to her, i did.
comes of singing too much.

There is Mayo and then there is Ireland... She came when she was 8 yo and you can still hear a bit of a "twang". Before the virus she would go back many times..Her heart is in Mayo...Her family is wonderful... One thing she told me about driving in Ireland is to "mind the line and keep the bitch in the ditch"... If you think about it even here the drivers side is the side with the line... Same over there. So keep the line on YOUR side... like here and the passenger on the curb or "ditch" side...

it's just a short story. but i dont know how much carbon dating helps. the age of the stones is obviously not the age of the monument. what would you want dated?
