N.J. Catholic high school teacher who spewed anti-gay rhetoric on Facebook reinstated after uproar

Today's lesson in moral behavior brought to you by the Catholic Church!

Marry the person you love? FIRED.
Post homophobic, hate-filled rants about fellow human beings? REINSTATED.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/catholic-teacher-spewed-anti-gay-rhetoric-reinstated-article-1.2182104

Officials at Immaculata High School in Somerville announced they had reinstated Patricia Jannuzzi, 57, effective right away, in a letter to students and parents on Friday, New Jersey Advance Media reported.

Jannuzzi had immediately deactivated her public profile page at school officials’ request last month, and the school in a borough of Somerset County in the New York metropolitan area put her on administrative leave two days after alums started sending around the 33-year educator’s online commentary, according to the publication.

In one post, the teacher wrote that people who take offense to the notion that gays and lesbian have chosen to be attracted to the same sex “want to reengineer western civ into a slow extinction(.) We need healthy families with a mother and a father for the sake of the children and humanity!!!!”

...

Jannuzzi’s supporters, who maintained she had been communicating religious doctrines against homosexuality, contributed to a fund-raising page set up by her two sons, but Oakley informed them she had retained her prior position in a post on the site on Friday.

1. Choice

these people who keep claiming this is all a choice seem to not understand a simple concept why would someone choose that path?

Why would anyone choose a path where the law is codified against you in more than half the nation and a majority of people claim your lifestyle disgusts them and is an abhorrent evil?

What's clear is that religion is certainly a choice and you can choose to believe in something that's as real as Santa Claus just so you can hate some of your fellow Americans...that's certainly a choice available to someone in the US and apparently a great many people like to choose make believe so they can hate someone and feel they are doing the bidding of a higher power while exercising that hate...

She would probably be upset if you compared her to the people over at the Westboro Baptist Church but the reality is her thoughts are the same, she just hasn't migrated to signs at a funeral yet.

thank you for providing that reference.

I can't understand how those who supposedly worship a being who claimed to love the world so much he gave his only son so that we all might be granted eternal life have no issue with hating some of their god's own creations even if they view those creations as flawed. They will quote old testament to validate their hatred but new testament to validate another position, many of them picking and choosing the passages they will adhere to and use for reference while discarding those that don't suit their current world view.

The problem is religion isn't a chinese take out menu with the option to have some from column A or some from column B. If you think homosexuality is a sin you must decide whether to stone the offender, judge not, or to remember Mark who said, And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Not all of us who have chosen to disregard a belief in fairy tales are without a baseline understanding of the literature associated with those tales.

If it's a choice, then being bigoted against that choice doesn't make you a bad person. You're just trying to help people make the good choice.

Others are desperately trying to convince themselves that it is a choice, and to stop thinking about that really hot guy they just met.

...so hot that some people would choose it over regular, straight sex, despite all the social opprobrium that accompanies homosexuality. It must be so hot and so good that people are tempted.
(Wrong - a blowjob is a blowjob, and anal sex is anal sex)

Or, they think the devil has taken control of them, but if that's the case, then they didn't really choose to be gay. The devil made them do it, hence the gay "conversion" therapies. (Wrong - no devil)

Or, they simply chose to hang with the devil and reject Christ, because that gay sex is so fucking hot. (Wrong - no devil)

Any of the above is simply a display of ignorance.

as I've learned on DU, you are now a racist. I have no clue which races you are racist against as I am pretty sure the set of "catholics" includes "all races", but there you go.

Criticizing Islam is, as we have learned, racist.

Ergo so is criticizing Catholicism. I am sorry.

she has no business around children. It's stuff like this that turn people away from the church. That's the only good thing about it.

You and I recognize her behavior as bigotry. To the pope and RCC leadership, she's just stating official church teachings!
