Remember: The Vatican ignores liberal US nuns "at their own peril!"

Well, uh, yeah. About that...

Vatican Ends Battle With U.S. Catholic Nuns’ Group
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/17/us/catholic-church-ends-takeover-of-leadership-conference-of-women-religious.html

Ultimately, the report issued on Thursday said that the nuns’ group would take care in selecting the speakers and programs at its conferences, and have “competent theologians” review their publications. It did not specify who would select the theologians, and indeed, women’s religious orders are full of trained and competent theologians.

The report said the goal was “to promote a scholarly rigor that will ensure theological accuracy and help avoid statements that are ambiguous with regard to Church doctrine or could be read as contrary to it.”

Oh the peril! The RCC leadership has agreed to change... absolutely nothing. The nuns agreed... to get right back in line.

On edit: This Swiss media outlet chose the following headline: Activist U.S. nuns make concessions after Vatican investigation

PERIL!

Without taking a stand in favor of the ordination of women or the acceptance of same-sex relationships, members insisted that open discussion of church doctrine was not only their right but was also healthy for the church.

It said the sisters were questioning church doctrine on homosexuality and the male-only priesthood, and promoting “radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith.”

The horror. So tired of this shit. Just accept everybody as fucking equal already.

Of course, the Church isn't a bastion of sexism and homophobia at all. Nooope.

Edit: pretty pathetic they gave in. It's 2015. Equal rights cannot be something to make concessions on. Women need to start standing up and leaving the church.

LCWR was put under Vatican oversight, which ended on Thursday with a joint final report.

While the final statement was at times conciliatory, speaking of "mutually beneficial" and "fruitful" conversations between the two sides, it included clear concessions.

It said LCWR's publications should "address spiritual matters rather than engage in formal theological inquiry" and be based on "sound doctrinal foundations".

"To this end, measures are being taken to promote a scholarly rigour that will ensure theological accuracy and help avoid statements that are ambiguous with regard to Church doctrine or could be read as contrary to it," it said.

Thought I'd point that out since you were accused of "women bashing" when you noted how badly the nuns are treated by the Vatican once upon a time.

But according to the catholic apologists in that other place those horrible white atheist men are the real misogynists because...Dawkinzz!!1!

Considering the atrocious things the individuals doing the accusing have said and defended, I feel complimented and empowered by their hatred. I must be doing something right.

Fortunately here in this group, I am protected from some of the worst. It's nice to keep some topics here where civil conversation can occur.

back when the nunlove was so trendy over in Religion. But despite the unbridled optimism from the usual suspects, this wasn't even a baby step…more like a smackdown and an epic fail.
